Union Village Will be a Heart-Healthy Community

A new development under construction in Warren County will have the perfect homes for healthy hearts. Union Village will be a walkable community that will include 4,500 homes over the next 40 years.

According to American Heart Month sponsor The American Heart Association, the rates of heart attacks and stroke among individuals between the ages of 35 and 64 are rising. Walking can significantly impact health by lowering the chance of heart disease.

The Village’s future residents will walk tree-lined streets to parks, shops, restaurants and even business offices. More than 25 percent of the development will be green space, including a 200-acre greenway system of meadows, woodland parks and pathways connect to Armco Park and Warren County Sports Park. The development is based on new urban design principles.

According to the Congress for New Urbanism, compact, walkable communities like Union Village improve health by encouraging physical activity, lowering risks for obesity and chronic disease.

The Union Village master plan, created by Town Architect Michael Watkins, earned the 2015 Urban Planning John Russell Pope Award from The Institute of Classical Architecture and Art.  Developers expect to build 30 new homes this year following a spring groundbreaking.

Union Village Development Company was founded in late 2015 as a wholly-owned, for profit subsidiary of the non-profit Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choices. New Urban Development Partners, LLC, renown for award-winning new urban projects, will be managing the development of Union Village.
