Principles of New Urbanism: Sustainability
New urbanism takes an environmentally responsible approach to development. It’s a concept that is often applied to urban revitalization, in which buildings can be rehabilitated and vacant lots can be infilled.
In a ground-up project like Union Village, it means using the land—and other materials—in the most responsible way. Space is maximized to efficiently meet the needs of residents. The community is connected with the surrounding farmland and natural habitat for Ohio’s wildlife.
Building a new urbanist community can mean using eco-friendly technologies, being energy efficient, minimizing use of fossil fuels, and using local production.
When completed, Union Village will be a community where people walk more and drive less. Click here to learn more about new urbanism.
